The European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending CZK 800 million (some EUR 29 million) to the Region of Zlín, Czech Republic, to co-finance, together with EU grants, the Region’s priority projects, particularly those related to transport and public infrastructure, education, health and social care, cultural heritage and tourism. The EIB loan will also support schemes contributing to energy savings in public buildings and environmental improvements.

EIB funds will help to implement Zlín’s Regional Development Strategy 2009-2020, the objective of which is to develop the region into one attractive for the local population, investors and visitors alike as well as to increase the level of economic development and standard of living.

This financing represents the third EIB loan to the Zlín Region. The two previous EIB loans to this Region, totalling some EUR 108 million, financed smaller investment schemes designed to improve the quality and safety of the local road network and to upgrade infrastructure related to education, social and health care as well as culture and tourism (this included refurbishment and energy efficiency measures in regional secondary school buildings, refurbishment and modernisation of social care facilities (mostly for elderly people), refurbishment and transformation of a former Bata factory into a cultural centre and refurbishment and modernisation of the premises of regional medical emergency services).
