The renewal of the famous Potsdamer Platz is perhaps the most visible urban development and real estate investment in Berlin financed by the Bank, right on the border between east and west.
This university clinic is a more recent example of health infrastructure investment. The whole university campus will be rebuilt and modernised with the support of EIB finance.
The Bank helped finance the removal of heavy environmental damage left by the GDR brown coal mining industry. Many of the pits around Leipzig have now been turned into lakes and nature reserves.
