EIB support for the 3rd edition of the African Microfinance Week (AMW)

After the success of the previous editions, the EIB is pleased to pursue its sponsorship to the African Microfinance Week (AMW) this year. The AMW is the major meeting of the microfinance industry in Africa, bringing together microfinance practitioners, related sectors and actors of inclusive finance. The AMW is designed to provide a platform to exchange and reflect on the industry and to actively promote and accelerate financial inclusion and economic growth on the continent.
2017 theme “Creating value for SMEs: a new frontier for inclusive finance”
This event is organised by ADA (Appui au développement autonome) upon the initiative of the regional African microfinance networks AMT (African Microfinance Transparency), AEMFI (Association of Ethiopian Microfinance Institutions), AMFI (Association of Microfinance Institutions – Kenya), AFRACA (Association Africaine du Crédit Rural et Agricole) and MAIN (Microfinance African Institutions Network), in partnership with Luxembourg’s Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs.
The participants include a diverse range of professionals from international investors to African MFIs to entrepreneurs and innovators. EIB’s Vice President, Mr Ambroise Fayolle, will give an opening speech alongside Her Royal Highness The Grand Duchess of Luxembourg (by video), Mr Romain Schneider, Luxembourg’s Minister of Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Mr Stefan Nalletamby, Director for the Financial Sector Development at African Development Bank and Ranieri Sabatucci, Head of the European Union Delegation to the African Union. Mr Yves Ferreira, Senior Investment Officer, Intermediated Finance for Micro Small and Medium Companies Division, will chair a panel session dedicated to the EIB solutions for supporting SMEs: Investing in private equity, along with private players (M-Birr, CEPHEUS, blueMoon, Entreprise Partners).
