The president of the European Investment Bank Nadia Calviño visited this week the United Nations in New York, where she spoke about EIB Group’s investments to make progress towards Sustainable Development Goals and met Secretary General Antonio Guterres, as well as the heads of two important partners to the EIB Group, the United Nations Development Programme and UNICEF.
The EIB president also met with Michael Bloomberg and agreed to reinforce our cooperation in his role as UN special envoy for Climate Ambition.
Back in Luxembourg Nadia Calviño chaired the European Investment Fund’s Annual General Meeting.
This week we have announced several new investments:
- In Germany, Vice-President Nicola Beer unveiled support for small and medium-sized businesses and a loan to the regional power-grid in Thuringia.
- We signed new projects for zero-emission buses in France and electric trains in Lithuania. And we welcomed the initial results of our project to equip Belgian schools with solar panels.
- And in Ukraine, new trams are now serving residents in the city of Lviv, and a new school in Kamianske has been rebuilt thanks to EU financing channelled through the EIB.
- Finally, Vice-President de Groot signed an agreement to improve access to affordable and safe drinking water across Asia and Africa.
