Description
Construction of a 98 km motorway from M'Saken (Sousse) to Sfax, extending the Tunis-M'Saken motorway southwards. The project is divided into two 50 km sections, including five interchanges with major roads, two rest and service areas and 50 structures (primarily bridges crossing other roads and rivers).
Objectives
To develop the country's motorway network through the construction of 50 km per annum over the next ten years. Construction of a motorway in the north (Tunis-Bizerte) commenced in 2000 and in the east (Tunis-Medjez) in 2002 while expansion southwards is scheduled for completion in 2006. Ultimately, the motorway should be extended to Gabès and the Libyan border and form part of the Pan-Mediterranean Transport Network.

Environmental aspects
The entire project works were subject to an environmental impact assessment in accordance with local legislation and the Bank's requirements.
