Objectives

The project concerns water and wastewater investments (reconstruction/rehabilitation of drinking water supply and distribution networks, construction of sewerage networks) in the areas of Pleven and Dolna Mitropolia in the northern part of Bulgaria as well as the reconstruction, expansion and modernisation of the Pleven waste water treatment plant. Key objectives are to achieve compliance with the EU water and urban waste water directives. The promoter has requested co-financing from the EU structural funds under the OP Environment and JASPERS has been actively involved in the project preparation.

The project aims at the protection of public health and the environment from water pollution, while maintaining a balanced development of water supply and sanitation focussing on wastewater collection and treatment, as well as safeguarding the financial and operational viability of the water company.

Environmental aspects
Procurement

The project is strongly environmentally driven, although its public health impact is considered to be its primary merit. The scheme will contribute to meeting Bulgaria´s needs in relation to compliance with the EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive.

Procurement procedures will be consistent with the Bulgarian public procurement law that is transposing the relevant EU public procurement directives.
