Following recent changes in the British government, Mr Philip HAMMOND was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer on 13 July 2016. He also becomes EIB Governor for the United Kingdom, succeeding Mr George OSBORNE. 

Before his current position, Mr HAMMOND served as Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs from July 2014 to July 2016. He was also Secretary of State for Defence from October 2011 to July 2014 and Secretary of State for Transport from May 2010 to October 2011. 

Previously, Mr HAMMOND also held various shadow portfolios from 1998 to 2010, including as Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury. He was elected to Parliament in 1997. 

Mr HAMMOND was born in Epping, Essex in 1955. He studied politics, philosophy and economics at University College, Oxford.
