Beschreibung
Acquisition of sites and the design, construction, equipping and upgrading of around 230 school facilities in Greece, including asbestos decontamination of identified schools and structural reinforcement of buildings to better protect against earthquake damage.
Ziele
By contributing to the modernisation of the schools estate, the project will contribute to human capital formation and economic and social development in Greece. As a result of the project the quality of educational services delivery as well as the efficiency of resource allocation in the Greek school system will be improved.

Umweltaspekte
Schools are not specifically mentioned in the EIA Directive on Environmental Impact Assessment, though the project can be covered by Annex II of the Directive in relation to urban development. The Bank’s services will verify during appraisal the EIA screening decision taken by the Competent Authority.
Auftragsvergabe
The Bank will require the promoter to ensure that all relevant contracts for the implementation of the project have been or shall be tendered in accordance with the relevant EU procurement legislation, with parallel publication of tender notices in the EU Official Journal, as and where appropriate.
