Description
This project comprises almost 13 kilometers of tramway track sections to be reconstructed across the entire city of Szczecin in Poland as well as the refurbishment of the Golecin tram depot and three substations (Kolumba, Chmilewskiego and Kaszubska).
Objectives
The principal project objective is to increase the usage of low-carbon urban public transport by improving the condition of the existing tramlines. Other objectives are to (i) reduce travel times and vehicle operating costs; (ii) improve road safety (through the reduction of number of vehicles using the road network); (iii) reduce the impact of transport on the environment (noise and air pollution) and climate change (i.e. carbon dioxide); and (iv) reduce the cost of operating and maintaining the tram network.

Environmental aspects
The components to be financed under this project fall under the Annex II of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive 2014/52/EU amending Directive 2011/92/EU. Compliance of all project components with EU Directives on the environment, including the EIA Directive 2014/52/EU, the Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC and the Birds Directive 79/409/EEC, will be analysed during the appraisal.
Procurement
The Bank will require the promoter to ensure that contracts for the implementation of the project will be tendered in accordance with the relevant applicable EU procurement legislation: Directive 2014/24/EU, 2014/25/EU, where applicable, as well as Directive 92/13/EEC or Directive 89/665/EEC as interpreted by the Court of Justice of the EU, with the publication of tender notices in the Official Journal of the EU, as and where required.
