Description

The Moravské Budejovice bypass road is part of the I/38 (E59) route between Motorway D1, Jihlava, Znojmo and the state border with Austria in South Moravia. The project consists of the construction of a 1x2 single carriageway bypass road with a total length of 6 350 m around the town of Moravské Budejovice. The carriageway is developed with a design speed of 100 km/h and has a width of 11.5 m. The project comprises two grade separated junctions, five bridges, and diversions for existing roads II/411 and III/4118.

Objectives

The project optimises traffic flows for passenger cars and, in particular, for freight vehicles on the I/38 Road between the Motorway D1 and the Austrian border. It also encompasses a relief from heavy transit traffic in the town of Moravské Budejovice.

Environmental aspects

The project falls under Annex II of Directive 97/11/EC as amended by Directive 2003/35/EC, and as such has undergone the procedures of a full EIA assessment including screening procedures, public consultations and environmental permit in 2002 in accordance with the applicable legislation – Act 100/2001 Coll. on the Environmental Impact Assessment.

Procurement

EU procurement directives (2004/17/EC, 2004/18/EC) have been transposed into Czech legislation by the Act No. 137/2006 Coll. The contract notices for the international open tender were published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). The main contract was published in the OJEU under the reference number 2007/S199-241346 on 16.10.2008. The procurement process is accountable under the Cohesion Funds regulations and is acceptable to the Bank.
