Environmental aspects
The project is promoted through the SOP-T, and was subject to a strategic environmental assessment following Romanian legislation in accordance with SEA Directive 2001/42/EC. The Environmental report was approved in January 31, 2007.
The project falls under Annex II of the EIA Directive, as transposed into Romanian Law, and the competent authority did not deemed an EIA necessary.
The project is located in the vicinity of four Natura 2000 sites and the Competent Authority confirmed that the project is likely to have no significant impacts on any of the sites.
Being rehabilitation of an existing road, following the same alignment and involving limited land take, the project will have mainly limited temporary and reversible negative residual impacts in the construction phase. On the long term, the project is expected to have positive benefits in terms of road safety.
Further aspects are to be assessed during appraisal.
