The European Mobility Week runs from 16-22 September each year, providing towns and cities with an opportunity to test out sustainable transport alternatives. By encouraging individuals to choose sustainable transport modes, such as public transports, we can improve the quality of our air, reduce congestion as well as travel times.
Sustainable and safe mobility remains a key theme for the EIB. Our investments target urban mobility, rail, aviation, maritime and road projects that are climate-friendly, innovative, sustainable and safe.

Our impact on sustainable transport
“Over 70% of Europeans live in urban areas, a figure likely to increase in the future”, said Vazil Hudák, EIB Vice-President, who has the oversight on the financing of sustainable urban mobility.
So far, 61 operations have been financed by the EIB in France to support public transport, with a total investment amount of EUR 11.5 billion including 40 trams and automatic light vehicles and six metros.
