Mr György Matolcsy, Minister for National Economy of the Republic of Hungary, has recently been appointed EIB Governor for the Republic of Hungary, succeeding Mr Oszkó.

Born in 1955 in Budapest, Mr György Matolcsy graduated from the University of Economics Budapest with a Diploma in Industrial Economics. He wrote a thesis on the "Application of Holding Firms in Hungary".

Before being appointed Minister for National Economy on 29 May 2010, Mr György Matolcsy was Minister of Economic Affairs during the first cabinet of Viktor Orbán.

Having been a member of Parliament since May 2006, Mr György Matolcsy also worked as Director of the Economic Growth Institute, Member of the Prime Minister's Advisory Council and Director of the Institute for Privatization Studies of the Property Foundation.

From 1991 to 1994, Mr Matolcsy was Alternate Director and Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, where he represented the strategic interests of Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic and Croatia.

Besides, Mr Matolcsy has dedicated many years to the teaching activity and has published various works and articles, notably on the process of privatization.
