Em 2020, o Banco Europeu de Investimento (BEI) apoiou a América Latina e as Caraíbas com 486 milhões de EUR de financiamento destinados a cinco projetos, contribuindo assim para o desenvolvimento sustentável e inclusivo e para a ação climática.
Todos os empréstimos do BEI na região em 2020 foram concedidos a mutuários do setor público, nomeadamente a bancos de desenvolvimento nacionais e a vários novos parceiros. Neste ano, a atividade do BEI na região centrou-se no apoio à ação climática, sendo também prioritária a resposta às consequências económicas e sociais da pandemia de COVID-19.
