In addition to improved healthcare access, closer collaboration between Nya Karolinska Solna and the Karolinska Institutet medical university contributes to EU objectives in the areas of education, research, development and innovation. Located along the interface of Solna and Stockholm municipalities, the project is an important part of the Karolinska-Norra station urban development, designed to create a world-class centre for medical science and innovation in Stockholm. As the EU’s long-term financing institution, the EIB is by far the largest international financial institution in the Nordic and Baltic Region. For the Nya Karolinska Solna hospital project, which is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) transaction, it is participating alongside the Nordic Investment Bank and commercial banks. The project company is a consortium of Skanska, the international project development and construction company, and Innisfree, the UK-based infrastructure investment group

“We are happy to support such a landmark project, which will further strengthen the Stockholm area as a leading life science cluster,”
said EIB Vice-President Eva Srejber, adding: “This loan is also a key element in the EIB’s participation in the EU strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, as it promotes research, development and innovation in line with the objectives of the strategy.”
