Kenya and the EIB

We support Kenya’s clean energy transition through financing for renewable power generation and energy access. Our investment in the Olkaria Geothermal Expansion project helps Kenya move towards its goal of 100% renewable energy by 2030. We also finance the Last Mile Connectivity project, which brings reliable electricity to rural communities and supports inclusive growth.

We are improving connectivity and trade efficiency through investments in key transport corridors. The Regional Port Access Road, which links major trade routes to Kenya’s port infrastructure, enhances the movement of goods and reduces travel time, boosting regional integration and competitiveness.

We strengthen Kenya’s private sector by expanding access to finance for small and medium-sized enterprises. Working with local financial institutions such as KCB Bank Kenya and Family Bank Kenya, we provide intermediated lending to support entrepreneurs, with a focus on women and young people.

We invest in private equity and venture capital funds such as Seedstars Ventures and Amethis to mobilise capital for Kenya’s startups and high-growth sectors. These funds not only provide financing but also offer strategic and technical guidance to businesses from early-stage development through to expansion.
