    About the event

    fi-compass is pleased to announce the upcoming ‘Thematic workshop on Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship’, organised by the European Commission, Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DG EMPL), and the European Investment Bank (EIB) taking place on 10 September 2019, in Lisbon.

    The fi-compass community will get to know more about the potential of financial instruments co-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF) to support initiatives and enterprises with measurable social impact.

    The Portuguese Social Innovation (PSI) Initiative case study, a pioneering initiative in the domain, which will be discussed during the workshop, will shed light on innovative ESF financing instruments that are being implemented during the 2014-2020 programming period in Portugal.

    The purpose of the workshop is to:

    • Provide participants with an opportunity to learn from the experiences in Portugal and other Member States in implementing financial instruments to support social innovation and social entrepreneurship, like Social Impact Funds and Social Impact Bonds;
    • Create a forum for participants to share their own experiences and progress in implementing similar financial instruments, both in the current and in the next programming period;
    • Enable participants to exchange on a peer-to-peer basis with the speakers and other participants on ways to deal with technical challenges they face regarding the design, set-up and implementation of complex initiatives in support of the social sector.
