EIB-UN-Habitat Africa Day 2020: Cities for people
Building sustainable cities for Africa’s future
- Feb 27, 2020
Africa’s population is growing and urbanising at a very high rate, which brings increasing demands on services and infrastructure for the cities of today and of tomorrow. Two-thirds of the urban space that the continent will need by 2050 don’t exist today. They will only be built over the next 30 years.
Africa’s population is growing and urbanising at a very high rate, which brings increasing demands on services and infrastructure for the cities of today and of tomorrow. Two-thirds of the urban space that the continent will need by 2050 do not exist today. They will only be built over the next 30 years.
Sustainable urbanisation will be the key topic at Africa Day 2020.
Hosted by the EIB and UN-Habitat in Dakar on 27 February 2020, Africa Day 2020 will be an agenda-setting event and networking platform for African and European representatives from national and local governments, commercial banks and development institutions, urban planners, CEOs and CFOs, members of academic institutions, NGOs and the civil society.
EIB President Werner Hoyer, EIB Vice-President Ambroise Fayolle and other high-level speakers will join Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal, and UN-Habitat Executive Director Maimunah Mohd Sharif to share their experiences and expertise. They will address the challenges brought by the rapid growth of African cities and towns and look at how urbanisation can become a key driving force for the successful implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Ultimately, the objective is to achieve prosperity for all, without compromising on environmental and climate change imperatives.

Participation is free and upon confirmed registration only.
