The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted a EUR 250 million loan to Banco de Sabadell to facilitate access to finance for SMEs and midcaps. The EIB funds will mainly be used to fund investments in a wide range of productive sectors and will have a positive impact on economic activity and employment.

Banco Sabadell will match the EIB loan with the same amount, meaning that a total of EUR 500 million will be made available to finance small businesses.

In 2013, the EIB Group (including the European Investment Fund) financed SMEs and midcaps to the tune of EUR 21 900 million (EUR 18 500 million of which came from the EIB), making it possible to provide support for some 230 000 firms throughout Europe. In Spain, the EIB made available EUR 4 836 million for new credit lines for SMEs, benefiting more than 47 000 such businesses.
