The European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending EUR 55 million to Cargotec, one of the world’s leading suppliers of cargo and load-handling equipment and services, to finance research and development (R&D) activities for the development of cargo-handling solutions and related technologies.

The EIB loan will promote R&D for the development of new technologies and equipment for industrial and on-road load-handling applications, for ports and container handling as well as for marine cargo and offshore load handling. It will also cover equipment and test facilities for Cargotec’s new Technology and Competence Centre in Tampere, Finland.

This project is expected to lead to environmental benefits resulting in reduced emissions, improved energy efficiency and operator safety, increased “intelligence” of machinery and equipment and higher productivity in the industrial and logistics processes where equipment and technologies supplied by Cargotec will be used. This project is important in terms of strengthening the European industry’s capacity for innovation in this sector and maintaining qualified R&D know-how and employment in Europe. It is in line with the EIB’s lending priorities under the Europe 2020 Strategy.
