Following last year’s Our Ocean conference and the United Nations’ Ocean and COP23 climate change conferences, companies, governments and individuals have made commitments to the ocean – a vital resource affected by climate change.

At the fifth World Ocean Summit, organised by The Economist in Mexico on March 7-9 2018, EIB Vice-President Jonathan Taylor will join political leaders, policymakers, heads of global business, scientists, NGOs and institutions to discuss how to deliver on these commitments.

As an active supporter of the Paris Climate Agreement, the EIB contributes to addressing important environmental and climate issues such as ocean acidification and warming. The EIB lends around EUR 80 billion every year and commits 25% of these funds to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The EIB stands ready to support projects that foster adaptation, biodiversity and ecosystems, increasing the resilience of oceanic and coastal marine environments.

See here for more information about the World Ocean Summit.

Please consult the EIB’s Climate and environment page for more information about the EU Bank’s involvement on climate action.
