President Hoyer: The linear approach does not work any longer

The EIB supports circular economy projects with a wide range of financing and advisory services. Between 2014 and 2018, the EIB has provided EUR 2.3 billion to finance circular projects in different sectors.

In this interview with Prognos ahead of the World Circular Economy Forum, EIB President Werner Hoyer explains why the future must be circular. He discusses the challenges and opportunities of investing in the circular economy, the special role for cities, the link to climate action and how the EIB is supporting the transition to a circular economy.

EIB at the WCEF2023: Scaling up financing for the circular economy and building strong partnerships

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is participating in the World Circular Economy Forum 2023 (WCEF 2023), from 30 May to 2 June in Helsinki, Finland. The annual WCEF, a global initiative of Finland and the Finnish Innovation Fund (Sitra), presents the world’s leading circular economy solutions with business leaders, policymakers and experts participating from around the world. This year’s edition will focus on the ambitious action to accelerate the circular economy transition and to promote circular solutions for nature and the economy.

First EIB Circular Economy Conference in Copenhagen

More than 200 people gathered on 25 October 2018 at European Investment Bank’s first circular economy conference held in Copenhagen and organized by the EIB Institute. The conference brought together leading representatives and stakeholders from government, local authorities, industry and the financing sector to share knowledge and lessons learnt related to the following important areas: (1) plastics in the circular economy; (2) the circular bio-economy; and (3) the circular economy in cities.
