Following a reshuffle in the Greek government, Mr George Chouliarakis was appointed interim Minister of Finance on 28 August 2015. He also becomes EIB Governor, succeeding Mr Tsakalotos.
Prior to his appointment, he was teaching macroeconomics at the University of Manchester. He also taught macroeconomics and economic history at the University of Essex. He is a visiting scholar of the Bank of Greece and a fellow of the Euro Area Business Cycle Network. He is currently the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers of Greece and a member of the European Council of Economic and Financial Affairs (ECOFIN), of the Eurogroup and a member of the Board of Governors of the ESM.
Mr Chouliarakis holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Warwick, England.
