Carmen Laín, alternate member of the Board of Directors

The Kingdom of Spain, by common accord with the Portuguese Republic, nominated, by letter dated 23 October 2008, Ms Carmen Laín (Deputy Director General for European Financial Institutions, General Directorate for International Finance, at the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Finance) for appointment as Alternate Member of the Board of Directors of the European Investment Bank to succeed Ms Alicia Varela, who has tendered her resignation.
By letter dated 31 October 2008, the Board of Governors was invited to vote on the proposed appointment.
The decision to appoint Ms Carmen Laín was taken on 14 November 2008, the date on which the requisite majority of Governors’ votes was reached.
The new alternate member of the Board of Directors has been appointed for the remainder of her predecessor’s term of office, which will expire in 2013 at the end of the day of the Annual Meeting in which the annual report, balance sheet and profit and loss account for the 2012 financial year are examined.
