The European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending PLN 250 million (approx. EUR 61 million) to finance the upgrading of infrastructure in the areas of water and culture in the city of Dąbrowa Górnicza in Southern Poland.

In the water sector the EIB loan will contribute to the reduction of the pollution originating from some 120 000 inhabitants residing in Dąbrowa Górnicza in line with the Polish regulations based on the EU Urban Wastewater Directive and the even stricter HELCOM Recommendation on Municipal Wastewater Treatment. The improved water quality will help to reduce the pollution of rivers entering the Baltic Sea.

The EIB funds will also co-finance investments in cultural facilities, namely the renovation of the city’s palace of culture to comply with the relevant standards for fire protection and accessibility for disabled persons and the improvement of its energy efficiency and air conditioning.

The EIB has very well developed cooperation with Polish municipalities, utility companies and regions. It finances the upgrading of urban transport and environmental infrastructure in all major Polish cities and regions. Within the current year, the Bank has already provided some EUR 950 million for the development and modernisation of urban infrastructure. This support has had a positive impact on the quality of life and competitiveness of Polish cities.
