Description

The loan will fund key components of the Stuttgart Airport's strategy to achieve net zero emissions by 2040 (STRzero). More specifically, the plan outlines the works to be implemented to achieve an 85% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2040. The project scope includes: i) reconstruction of Terminal 4 along with the refurbishment of the Airport Operations Centre building and three airside services buildings; ii) electrification of the airport's ground handling infrastructure; iii) acquisition of zero-emissions airside vehicles, including ground handling mobile equipment; iv) upgrade of the airport's electricity network.

Objectives

The aim is to upgrade the airport's existing infrastructure and utility networks as well as contribute to STRzero.

Environmental aspects

A number of components included in this project might fall under Annex II of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive 2011/92/EU (amended by the Directive 2014/52/EU), meaning that the Competent Authority makes the decision as to whether a formal EIA is required or not. This, and the status of any existing development permits, will be reviewed and assessed during project appraisal.

Procurement

The Promoter shall ensure that contracts for implementation of the project have been tendered in accordance with the applicable EU procurement legislation: Directive 2014/25/EU as well as Directive 92/13/EEC as interpreted by the Court of Justice of the EU, with publication of tender notices in the EU Official Journal, as and where required.
