The European Investment Bank in partnership with the Bulgarian National Bank will hold in Sofia on Wednesday 5th July 2006 a seminar on EIB financing of Financial Institutions in Bulgaria.

Who should attend

The conference is designed to bring together representatives from the government, banks and financial institutions as well as financial intermediaries.

What will participants learn

The seminar will explore with a select audience of financiers ways of financial intermediation and cooperation - and showcase the absorption of pre-accession funding. Through keynote speeches, interactive panel discussions and special case studies, the conference will provide a unique opportunity to meet with and hear from policy makers, leading representatives from the Bulgarian National Bank and senior EIB experts.

About the event

In the period leading to and beyond EU accession, cooperation with financial institutions becomes even more important to achieve the EU integration objectives. The EIB event on 5 July aims to demonstrate the large potential benefits that cooperation between the EIB and local banks can bring in its various forms.

Speakers

The seminar, in Sofia on 5th July at the Grand Hotel Sofia, will be opened by Dimiter Ivanovski, Deputy Minister of Finance and Dimitar Kostov, Deputy Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank. Other confirmed speakers include Levon Hampartzoumian, President of the Association of Commercial Banks and Thomas Hackett, Director General for lending operations in Europe, EIB as well as a full range of EIB experts.

Background

Since 1992, the European Investment Bank, as the financing arm of the European Union, has been providing long-term funds in Bulgaria supporting investment to facilitate EU integration across all sectors and recipients in close cooperation with the local banking sector. Economic and financial reforms in recent years have fostered an improved business climate and together with EU entry, this is expected to lead to increasing levels of investment activity in the years ahead.
