Promoter – Financial Intermediary

ZF FRIEDRICHSHAFEN AG

Location

Description

The project concerns the promoter's activities related to fuel efficiency in the development of transmission systems and powertrain modules for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. In addition it concerns investments in electro-mobility-related research and development (R&D) activities.

Objectives

The project will contribute to increasing the promoter's knowledge and know-how in the field of fuel-efficient and low-carbon powertrain technologies and is expected to lead to higher fuel efficiency and the reduction of CO2 emissions from motor vehicles.

Sector(s)

Proposed EIB finance (Approximate amount)

EUR 500 million

Total cost (Approximate amount)

EUR 1200 million

Environmental aspects

The project concerns investments in R&D that are expected to be carried out in existing facilities already authorised and would therefore not require an environmental impact assessment (EIA) under Directive 2011/92/EU. The Bank's services will review during the project appraisal whether any of the investments concern construction of engine test benches that could fall under Annex II of the EIA Directive, as well as any other environmental details of the project.

Procurement

The promoter is a private company not operating in the Utilities sector and not having the status of contracting authority. Thus it is not covered by EU directives on procurement.
