    Description
    Objectives

Financing to support small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and mid-caps in the Region of Brussels.

The aim is to enhance access to finance for the target beneficiaries.

    Additionality and Impact

FIB, the regional promotional institution of the BCR, plays a key role in facilitating access to financing for SMEs and small Mid-caps. Currently its investment strategy, set in line with the BCR government's economic policy, focuses on five business investment themes, namely: i) urban well-being & health, ii) technology solutions developed specifically for public sector, iii) food & urban farming, iv) creative media & entertainment, and v) financial & insurance technology. This Project aims to support the financing of small-scale investments carried out by SMEs and small Mid-caps within the BCR. By deploying

funds through this EIB loan, FIB seeks to bridge financing gaps by reducing the burden of high collateral requirements and limited loan tenors that often hinder SMEs' access to long-term funding. The Project is expected to enhance financing conditions and improve access to capital for small and medium-sized businesses, thereby fostering economic resilience and innovation. The Project aligns with the Bank's key policies objectives, particularly by addressing market constraints in SME financing. Furthermore, the Bank's involvement sends a strong signal to the market on the need to support SMEs, crowding in other investors.
