Summary sheet
The project consists of the construction of a new 14.2 km section of the R4 Expressway between Kosice and Milhost in Slovakia.
The R4 expressway is located in eastern Slovakia and when complete will, together with a section of the D1 motorway, provide a north-south road corridor connecting Poland and Hungary.
The project was included in the Operational Transport Programme 2007-2013 for Slovakia, which falls within the scope of the strategic environmental assessment Directive 2001/42/EC. The project is a class of development that is included under Annex I of the environmental impact assessment Directive 2011/92/EU and subject to full procedure. The project passes through a special protected area defined under the Birds Directive 2009/147/EC. Environment and nature conservation decisions have been issued by the national competent authorities.
The Bank will require the promoter to ensure that contracts for the implementation of the project have been/shall be tendered in accordance with the relevant applicable EU procurement legislation (Directive 2004/17/EC and Directive 2007/66/EC), with publication of tender notices in the EU Official Journal, as and where required.
