Summary sheet
Romanian National Company of Motorways and National Roads (RNCMNR)
The project consists of the construction of approximately 39 km of dual two lane motorway on a new alignment from Nadlac to Arad in Romania, and an associated feeder road. The project is part of the overall development of priority TEN-T corridor 7.
Construction of Nadlac – Arad Motorway
The project falls under Annex I of the EIA Directive 85/337/EEC as amended. An EIA has been carried out and public consultations have been organised, with official approval having been granted on 04.08.2009. Land acquisition is required, but consists mostly of low value arable, pasture and unproductive land. Very little building demolition and no resettlement are expected. The EIA procedure, including issues related to the Habitats and Birds Directives, are to be assessed during appraisal.
The Promoter is a public entity and is therefore subject to EU Procurement Directives. The construction works have been tendered through an open procedure in two lots and contracts awarded in mid-June 2011. Both lots comprise detailed design and construction. The tender procedure and award of contracts will be reviewed during appraisal.
