Objectives

The project concerns the modernisation of the urban transport system in Berlin.

The project will contribute to improving the quality of service (in terms of speed, comfort and reliability) for public transport users, and will increase the attractiveness of the public transport in Berlin, an assisted area. This will reduce the incentive for private car usage and thereby improve the quality of the urban environment.

Procurement

The acquisition of buses and rolling stock does not fall under the EIA Directive 97/11/EC and no Environmental Impact Assessment is required. The project provides environmental benefits (see above).

Procurement procedures applied under the project comply with the relevant EU legislation.
