The European Investment Bank is organising two workshops on 14 June 2013 to present and discuss the Bank’s updated Environmental Practices and revised Social Standards on Involuntary Resettlement, Rights and Interests of Vulnerable Groups, Labour Standards, Occupational and Public Health and Stakeholder Engagement.

The current Environmental and Social Practices Handbook can be found on the Bank’s website http://www.eib.org/infocentre/publications/all/environmental-and-social-practices-handbook.htm. The current Handbook was developed in the wake of the adoption of the Bank’s Statement of Environmental and Social Principles and Standards, a publicly consulted document approved by the EIB Board in 2009. While revision of the Statement is not currently foreseen, a variety of issues prompted the revision of the Handbook and the SAGNs, including clarification of the structure, integration of human rights considerations and coordination with other IFIs.

The day will be split into two with a workshop in the morning on environmental matters and a workshop in the afternoon on social/human rights matters. Both workshops will start with a presentation on the Handbook by the Bank’s Environment, Climate and Social Office.

In line with the Bank services'desire for expert, informed and constructive feedback from civil society we would also stress the technical nature of the workshops and request that only environmental or social specialists register for the event.

The draft updated Environmental and Social Handbook (including the revised Social Standards) will be sent to those who register before the workshop.

Please note that the EIB cannot reimburse travel or accommodation expenses for participants.
