The Mutual Reliance Initiative (MRI): Effective partnering for growth & development
- Jan 21, 2013
On Monday 21 January, the Operational Guidelines for the Mutual Reliance Initiative (MRI) were signed in Brussels by Agence Française de Développement (AFD), Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) and the EIB represented by Philippe de Fontaine Vive, senior Vice-President.
The MRI is a mechanism by which, when co-financing projects, one of the three partners takes the role of lead financier, relying on its standards and procedures as long as the minimum requirements of the other partners are met. The operational guidelines build on the experience of the pilot phase involving 14 joint projects in the FEMIP region and in sub-Saharan Africa.
A workshop had been organised in the Solvay Library where three project promoters from Egypt (Egyptian Power Transmission Project), Morocco (National Sewerage Program) and Uganda (Kampala Water – Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation Project of Uganda) demonstrated how this partnering works in practice (see presentations attached). Close to 100 people attended the workshop.
