MOOC: EU budget and funding for regions and cities
- Oct 31, 2016
- Dec 9, 2016
The EIB is taking part for the first time in a massive open online course (MOOC) organised by the Committee of the Regions, to help regional and local authorities navigate policy-making in EU affairs.
How does the EU budget work? How can European regions and cities access EU funds? The European Committee of the Region’s massive open online course (MOOC) is the first of its kind to help regional and local authorities navigate policy-making in EU affairs. This year’s course has been co-created by the European Investment Bank and two Directorates-General of the European Commission.
The MOOC will comprise six main themes – each online for one week and requiring about two hours of study time – focusing on the EU budget and how it is spent.
Theme 4, created by the EIB, will focus on urban and regional development. Participants will gain a better understanding of how cities and regions can make use of the EIB’s funding and advice to support their development project, and how the Investment Plan for Europe can help cities and regions boost their investment.
Interactive content, varied speakers
The course tools, including videos, live debates, factsheets and quizzes, will balance the basic theory behind EU funding, procedures and evaluation with hands-on information from practitioners on project design and delivery.
More than 50 speakers – EU officials, academics, practitioners and local authorities – contribute to the course, taking place from Monday 31 October until Friday 9 December 2016. The course material will remain available online until 31 July 2017.
Provided they have followed at least 80% of the course, participants will be able to download a certificate of achievement. More than 3,600 participants have already registered!
