    The promoter, Zeleznicna spolocnost' Slovensko (ŽSSK), a 100% owned Slovakian National Railway operator, is known to the Bank through previous operations.

    Description

    The project is a major allocation under the structured programme loan "NDP FRAMEWORK LOAN II" and concerns the acquisition of nine Electric Multiple Units (EMU) and 20 Diesel Multiple Units (DMU) for Zeleznicna spolocnost' Slovensko (ZSSK). The European Commission's co-financing decision has been issued on 09/12/2013.

    Objectifs

    The project is key to the investment programme of ZSSK and aims at modernising the rolling stock fleet within this segment, allowing integration of the public transport system of trams, buses and trains within the agglomerations of Bratislava and Kosice.

    Aspects environnementaux

    The project was included in the Operational Transport Programme 2007-2013 for Slovakia, which falls within the scope of the strategic environmental assessment Directive 2001/42/EC. The project is a class of development that is included under Annex I of the environmental impact assessment Directive 2011/92/EU and subject to full procedure. The project passes through a special protected area defined under the Birds Directive 2009/147/EC. Environment and nature conservation decisions have been issued by the national competent authorities.

    Passation des marchés

    The Bank will require the promoter to ensure that contracts for the implementation of the project have been/shall be tendered in accordance with the relevant applicable EU procurement legislation (Directive 2004/17/EC and Directive 2007/66/EC), with publication of tender notices in the EU Official Journal, as and where required.
