Description
Objectives

The proposed project comprises the construction of a new 139 room airport hotel and associated infrastructure. The proposed hotel is located just next to the new airport terminal currently being constructed in Mauritius, adjacent to the existing terminal.

Improving the accessibility of the airport is expected to have a positive effect on the economic development around Mauritius' main airport as well as on Mauritius' economy in general.

Environmental aspects
Procurement

Were this project to be located within the EU, it would fall under the scope of Directive 97/11/EEC, Annex II. However, the nature and scale of the project is such that the Competent Authority would probably screen out the project and an Environmental Impact Assessment would not be required. Compliance with Mauritian legislation will be verified during appraisal and the status of any environmental studies and public consultations will be reviewed.

The Bank will require the promoter to ensure that implementation of the project will be done in compliance with the Bank's Guide to Procurement.
