    Description
    Objectives

    The proposed project will finance the initial stage of the campus extension programme of the University of York, located on a greenfield site at Heslington East on the outskirts of the town. Specifically, the programme covers the construction of new buildings for the departments of Law, Management, Computer Science, and Theatre, Film and Television, as well as the surrounding landscaping and infrastructure additions.

    The proposed project is designed to assist the university, in further developing its teaching and research capacity and adding to its knowledge transfer capabilities.

    Environmental aspects
    Procurement

    Universities are not specifically mentioned in the EIA Directive on Environmental Impact Assessment, though the project is covered by Annex II of the Directive in relation to urban development. The Bank’s services will verify the EIA screening decision of the Competent Authority during appraisal.

    The Bank requires the Promoter to ensure that all relevant contracts for the implementation of the project have been tendered, or will be tendered, in accordance with the relevant EU procurement legislation.
