Description
Objectives

Development of a large aircraft engine (“Trent XWB”), integrating a number of innovative technologies.

The project would contribute to furthering private sector investment in research and development and innovation, as well as to developing European experience and expertise in science and technology. The project is hence eligible under Article 267 (c) in relation to i2i of the EC Treaty.

Environmental aspects
Procurement

The new engine is expected to bring about benefits for the environment through reduced fuel burn, emissions and noise compared to engines in operation today.

Because this is a private sector project, EU procurement legislation does not apply to the project.
