The Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Augusto Santos Silva, visited the Bank today, 19 April 2016, meeting President Hoyer, Vice-President Escolano and the teams dealing with operations in Portugal.
In 2015, the European Investment Bank provided a total of EUR 1 413 million for projects in Portugal. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Bank’s first operation in Portugal. EIB started supporting the Portuguese economy even before the country’s accession to the then European Communities. So far the EIB has lent over EUR 44 billion to support projects in Portugal.
