    Description

    The project concerns the design and rollout of a Very High Capacity (VHC) broadband network across the country, with a main focus on Central and Southern Germany.

    Objectives

    The project addresses the low Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) fibre optic broadband coverage in rural and sub-urban areas, mainly non-subsidized areas, for households with no existing access to cable or FTTH/B broadband technologies. The scope is to add around 217 k additional Households (HH) to the promoter's existing network allowing to reach at least 628 k HH's passed upon project completion (by year-end 2026). The promoter will also offer wholesale open access services to other retail operators.

    Environmental aspects

    Investments in fixed telecommunications projects (mainly civil works for fibre rollout) do not fall under the Annexes of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive 2014/52/EU (amending Directive 2011/92/EC). The related works have limited environmental effects, apart from disturbances during civil work constructions, which can be mitigated by appropriate measures.

    The promoter has been assessed by the EIB as being a private company not being subject to EU rules on public procurement or concessions.
