    Description

    The project consists of the construction of the Kroměříž East – Říkovice section of the D1 motorway (11.3 km in category D 26.5/120 and 3.375 km in category R 24.5/120) and of section Skalka – Hulín of the R55 expressway (10.8 km) in the Zlín region in the south-east of the Czech Republic.

    Objectives

    The project will develop the transit connections of the industrial area of Ostrava with Brno and Prague, facilitate the exchange with Poland on the TEN-T route Gdansk – Brno / Bratislava – Vienna (Priority Project No 25) and will also improve the accessibility of Zlín and Olomouc regions. It will furthermore provide a bypass to the town of Hulín.

    Environmental aspects

    The environmental impact assessment commenced in 1997 and was completed in 1999. Feasibility studies commenced in 1996 and were completed in 2001 for R55-5503, and 2004 for D1-0135. The building contract documentation was issued in 2005 for D1-0135 and 2008 for R55-5503.

    Procurement

    EU procurement directives (2004/17/EC, 2004/18/EC) have been transposed into Czech legislation by the Act No. 137/2006 Coll. The contract notices for the international open tender were published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). Both main contracts were published in the OJEU under the reference number 2007/S169-208403 on 04.09.2007 for D1-0135, and reference number 2008/S28-037449 on 09.02.2008 for R55-5503. The procurement process is acceptable to the Bank.
