    Description
    Objectives

The project will finance the development and implementation of a geothermal facility to provide heat capacity to the operator of the existing district heating system network of the city of Poznan, in Poland.

The aim is to contribute to the integration of baseload renewable heat into the country's energy system. The project will generate environmental and health benefits, in particular by replacing fossil fuels through the integration of more sustainable, renewable energy sources. The project is therefore aligned with EU and national renewable energy and climate targets, as well as the EIB's Energy Strategic Orientation.

    Environmental aspects
    Procurement

The project geothermal sites fall under Annex II of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive 2011/92/EU (as amended by the Directive 2014/52/EU), which requires the national competent authority to determine the need for an EIA. Where and if applicable, and based on a risk-based approach as defined in the EIB Group's Environmental and Social Policy, the requirements of the Environmental Impact Assessment Directive 2011/92/EU as amended by Directive 2014/52/EU, Birds Directive 2009/147/EC and Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC will be verified during appraisal.

Being a private company and not considered to be a contracting entity, the Promoter is not subject to EU rules on public procurement, utilities or concessions.
