Objectives

The project consists of the optimisation and modernisation of a double track railway section with a total length of 45.3 km, located on railway Corridor III west of Prague between Beroun and Rokycany.

The project is part of the overall modernisation of Corridor III from Prague to German border and further to Nürnberg. The project concerns the refurbishment and partial upgrading of existing infrastructure both for passengers and freight traffic. It also encompasses an improvement of network safety and reliability. The project is a step towards the gradual achievement of interoperability of the Czech rail network.

Environmental aspects
Procurement

The project complies with the EU directives relating to environmental protection. Based on a statement issued by the competent Authority, the project is not likely to have significant effects on Natura 2000 sites.

EU procurement directives have been transposed into Czech legislation by Act No. 137/2006 Coll. The contract notices for the international open tender were published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). The procurement process is accountable under the Cohesion Funds regulations and is acceptable to the Bank.
