    Objectives

    Construction of 65.62km new dual carriageway motorway between Plodovitova and Hermanli, completing the motorway connection between Sofia and the Turkish border on TEN corridors IV and X.

    The project will contribute to complete the current motorway, reduce travel time and vehicle operating costs, shift transit traffic and relieve adjacent villages from Heavy Goods Vehicle traffic, thus improving local living and safety conditions.

    Procurement

    The project falls under Annex I of the EIA Directive 85/337/EEC as amended. An EIA has been carried out with official approval having been granted on 02.07.2010. The EIA procedure, including issues related to the Habitats and Birds Directives, are to be assessed during appraisal.

    The Promoter is a public entity and is therefore subject to EU Procurement Directives. The construction works have been tendered through an open procedure in two lots in 2011. The tender procedure and award of contracts will be reviewed during appraisal.
