The bridge is part of the national cultural heritage, an important connection between the two sides of the city center over the Danube also providing access through a wing-bridge to the Margit Island, a central recreation area.
The project will contribute to improving the service level for the public transport and the non-motorised individual traffic, including construction of cycle paths, while preserving the bridge’s functionality to serve individual car traffic.
The project has not been classified under Annex I or Annex II of the EIA Directive by the local competent authority. Compliance with environmental legislation will be verified during appraisal, notably for environmental impact and nature conservation aspects.
