    Description
    Objectives

    The project comprises: (i) The expansion for high speed services of Madrid-Atocha station, (ii) The construction of a new tunnel to connect Atocha-Chamartin stations and (iii) the installation of a third and fourth high speed track between Torrejon de Velasco and Madrid.

    The project will allow to: (i) provide the required additional capacity in the mid term in the main high speed station in Spain (Madrid-Atocha) and by means of linking the southern HSR network to Madrid-Chamartín.

    Environmental aspects
    Procurement

    The project falls under Annex I of EU Directive 85/337/EEC amended by 97/11/CE and 2003/35/EC. An EIA for the project is required.

    The Promoter is a railway entity subject to EU public procurement regulations. The promoter has ensured compliance with the European procurement legislation, including EU wide open tender procedures and publication in the EU Official Journal. The procurement procedure will be verified during appraisal.
