    Description
    Objectives

The project concerns an increase in broadband capacity in Turkey by approximately 2 million lines.

The increase in broadband capacity will extend coverage and improve speed of existing coverage in a country where internet penetration levels are well below the EU average.

    Environmental aspects
    Procurement

If the project was located in the EU it would not fall under Annex I or II of EIA directive 85/337/EEC, amended by directives 97/11/EC and 2003/35/EC. Installation and operation of fixed networks equipment have limited residual environmental effects. Further details will be assessed during appraisal.

The promoter is a private company and the fixed line market has been liberalised since 2004. Therefore the promoter is not subject to public procurement procedures but may opt for other suitable procedures, which are in the interest of the project. The effectiveness of these procedures will be assessed during appraisal.
