Objectives

The project comprises the implementation of the Regional Sanitation Plan for the region of Madrid, including a large number of wastewater collection and treatment schemes, and the rehabilitation and sealing of the Plaza de Castilla water underground reservoir in Madrid, and its conversion into a 3 Ha. urban park.

Improving the quality of the water resources in the Madrid region through proper wastewater treatment to 100% of the population; improving the quality of life in the city of Madrid.

Environmental aspects
Procurement

The proposed target of 100% coverage rate for wastewater treatment will have a positive effect on the quality of the regional water resources and on the environment. The promoter is required to respect the regulations imposed by European Union directives. In accordance with its normal procedure, the Bank will ensure that appropriate measures have been taken as regards environmental protection.

Procurement procedures applied by the promoter are in compliance with Council Directives applicable to public authorities' procurement, and national legislation. According to information provided by the promoter, all tenders were published in the EC Official Journal.
