The main components are a 1,830 km circuit overhead transmission line with fibre optic cable and the extension of 16 existing substations, including reactive compensation equipment.
The project aims at integrating the high-voltage power transmission systems of the six participating countries in Central America (Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala), with the objective to form a regional electricity market and to provide mutual support in order to promote the least cost development of power generation in the region.
The project will be designed to comply with the environmental regulations of the countries concerned.
The components financed by the Bank will follow open procurement procedures with publication in the Official Journal of the European Communities.
